What are the Northern Lights?
Writing and Photography by Marta Planker
Often referred to as the Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis are a natural light display in the sky. This occurs when charged particles from the sun collide with the earth’s atmosphere. Enjoyed by many around the globe, the light phenomenon includes pink, red, yellow, violet, and green. When all the lights mix, they appear to be white.
Aurora Borealis is predominant in northern altitudes. The best time to see these lights are from August to April. With October, November and April being the peak months for this spectacular show.
The best way to capture this solar activity is with a regular camera lens, including a smart phone lens.
Set the lens to a wide aperture and a high ISO value with the farthest possible focus setting and enjoy!
Aurora
If only your eyes can see
Where your soul wants to be
Brilliance of green light
Sending thrill into the night
Bathing your aura with bliss
Feeling like a borealis joyful kiss
Capturing its brilliance with a lens
Knowing truly that it will never make sense
The dynamic beauty it is meant to behold
Can never truly be told…
